Artists’ Talk with Sara Gilbert, Herbert Molner, Adam Pendleton, Matt Saunders and Collier Schorr; Moderation: Dominic Eichler.
On the occasion of the exhibition Freeway Balconies, panel members discuss the core themes of the exhibition and the role of performance in contemporary art.

In celebration of the reopening of the American Embassy and the “America Festival,” admission will be free on July 5, 2008.

14.08.2008, 7 p.m. – Lecture by Dr. Antke Engel
“Desire as Movement in Imaginary Settings”
In her research, philosopher and queer theorist Dr. Antke Engel focuses on the development of feminist and post-structuralist theories and on the critique of representation. In 2006, she founded the “Institute for Queer Theory,” dedicated to gender and sexuality studies and their public dissemination. The Institute serves as an interface for scientific, political and artistic/cultural discourses.

Coinciding with the exhibition Freeway Balconies, the Deutsche Guggenheim offers a special youth program (14 to 18 years) from 6 to 8 p.m. Short guided exhibition tours every hour after 8 p.m.

02.09.2008, 7 p.m. – Artist’s Talk with Matt Saunders *
Matt Saunders, born 1975 in Washington State, USA, studied painting and printing at the Yale University School of Art. Numerous solo and group shows have earned him international acclaim. Saunders lives and works in Berlin.

18.09.2008, 7 p.m. – Lecture by Prof. Dr. Susanne von Falkenhausen
“Eccentric Identities—Intimacy and the Photographic Apparatus”
Prof. Dr. Susanne von Falkenhausen is professor of art history at the Humboldt University, Berlin. A specialist in contemporary art, her main research topics include current American art, feminist theories as well as gender studies in the history of modern art.
