Do you know of a school at which almost all teachers were famous personalities? Ninety years ago, such a school was founded in Weimar that became famous under the name of “Bauhaus”. Teaching was conducted by well-known artists, designers and architects; two of the teachers were Paul Klee and Josef Albers. We will meet at the Martin-Gropius-Bau and view the exhibition “Modell Bauhaus”. We will be told the exciting story of the history of the Bauhaus and learn more about its teachers, including Wassily Kandinsky and, of course, Paul Klee and Josef Albers. On Saturday we will view the exhibition “Abstraction and Empathy” at the Deutsche Guggenheim showing pictures of Klee and Albers and compare them with artworks by Piet Mondrian, Blinky Palermo and Michael Buthe. Together we will explore how we experience the artworks, and create our own art based on what we have seen using many different colors and materials. Afterwards, your pictures will be displayed in a small exhibition to which your parents and friends are cordially invited!
Overall costs: € 10

The artist Paul Klee loved the circus, the opera and folkloristic puppetry. He created close to fifty hand puppets for his son Felix, with which he performed imaginary plays. Other artists such as Michael Buthe were also very fond of plays and fairy tales. Both painters had something in common: On their trips to northern Africa, they were all but enchanted by oriental colors and shapes. Their joy of collecting and designing led to colorful, imaginative puppets and figures. Like these great artists, we will make hand puppets out of wood, fabric, pearls and feathers, with which we will stage an oriental fairy tale on the last day of the workshop. Parents and friends are cordially invited to the premiere!
