Alexandra Munroe, Senior Curator of Asian Art, Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum, discusses the Deutsche Guggenheim commission with the artist.

Anish Kapoor: Form Follows Fiction?
In her studies on contemporary art, Dr. Alexandra von Stosch, art historian and co-founder of the Contemporary Arts Alliance Berlin (CAA), has conducted intensive research into the work of Anish Kapoor. She is the co-author, with Rainer Crone, of the recently published catalogue Anish Kapoor: From Colour to Darkness: Svayambh. Her lecture provides the theoretical and historical background for a critique of Kapoor’s sculpture.

Since 2003, Chris Dercon is the Director of the Haus der Kunst, Munich, site of Kapoor’s highly successful exhibition “Svayambh” (2007).
22.01.2009, 7 p.m. – Lecture by Dr. Ulrich-Wilhelm Thomale and Dr. Alexander Abbushi
INSIDE—OUTSIDE
Ulrich-Wilhelm Thomale, pediatric surgeon, and Alexander Abbushi, neurosurgeon, Charité Universitätsmedizin Berlin, are founding members of the Association of Neuroesthetics. Using Kapoor’s commission Memory as an example, they outline the neurobiological framework necessary for an understanding of aesthetic appreciation as well as attempts to evaluate the meaning of art from a neuroscientific perspective.
